The Roots of Antun Augustinčić from Klanjec

Sculptor Antun Augustinčić originates from Klanjec, a town with a long and rich history, where he grew up in a family marked by strong discipline and passion. From his father Adam, a mason, he inherited a strong work ethic and a sense of structure, while his mother Katarina, an accomplished horsewoman, instilled in him a love for horses. It is possible that this early childhood explains his inclination and virtuosity in creating equestrian monuments through which he gained international acclaim. As one of the most gifted students of Ivan Meštrović, he continued his education in Paris, developing his style on the foundations of the traditions of Michelangelo and Rodin. We invite you to experience, in our specially designed corner, the spirit of Augustinčić’s roots and the atmosphere of the Gallery from its very beginnings.
